The passive voice

In the passive voice, the subject of the sentence is neither a do-er or a be-er, but is acted upon by some other agent or by something unnamed (The new policy was approved).

The passive voice does exist for a reason, however, and its presence is not always to be despised. The passive is particularly useful (even recommended) in two situations:

• When it is more important to draw our attention to the person or thing acted upon: The unidentified victim was apparently struck during the early morning hours.
• When the actor in the situation is not important: The aurora borealis can be observed in the early morning hours.

 We use the passive voice to good effect in a paragraph in which we wish to shift emphasis from what was the object in a first sentence to what becomes the subject in subsequent sentences.

How I lived the temblor that happened last sunday

Last Sunday I woke up at 10 am, I was very tired because last night I went to bed late but it was time to get up and to do my tasks of the day. I took a shower and then I stared to wash dishes because that was what I had to do. While I was washing dishes I heard my dad calling me. I felt really angry because I hate interruptions, moreover I could not hear him because he was far from me, that made me felt upset too but I went out to the kitchen in order to hear better what he was saying to me.

At that moment I could hear him very clearly and he told me that we need to go out of the house because there was an earthquake. I did not know what to do because I didn´t even notice that the temblor was happening but I went out of the house and then we waited till it ended. To me it wasn't scary because I didn't notice it but I know next time I need to pay more attention because if I am distracted in a situation like that it could be dangerous to me. 

Going to sleep

After i finished my class i went to my mother's house and i was there till 4. When i came to my home i felt so tired but i had to do homeworks, so i did all the assignments. Finally i went to bed at 10 pm because i really wanted to go to sleep. My day wasn't fun, actually it was boring but i know that tomorrow is going to be a great day.

Waking up this morning

When i woke up this morning, i felt like i wanted to keep sleeping all day because last night i went to bed late, but i had to come to CALL class. I recall that last night my boyfriend told me that he wanna see me today after my class so i took a shower, then my routine begun. I brushed my hair for a long time and then i realized i was late to go to class, so quikly i finished to organize things in my bag that i need in the university and i took a taxi.
